“Seeing trainees grow in confidence is the most rewarding part of my role.”

The Plane Tree Nottingham was founded with a simple but powerful idea — that everyone deserves the opportunity to take part, learn new skills, and feel valued in their community. Established in [insert year], The Plane Tree began as a small creative hub in Nottingham, bringing together people with a passion for craft, sustainability, and inclusion.
Over time, it has grown into a vibrant Community Interest Company (CIC), supporting adults with additional needs through hands-on training, meaningful work experience, and social connection. The name “Plane Tree” reflects our deep roots in the local community and our belief in growth, resilience, and shared strength.

Visitors say The Plane Tree feels like more than just a shop — it’s a space filled with warmth, teamwork, and creativity. Every product tells a story, and every person who walks through our doors becomes part of that story.

“The Plane Tree has helped me believe in myself again.” – Trainee, Nottingham

“It’s a joy to see everyone working together and supporting each other — that’s what community looks like.” – Volunteer

Community Interest Company (CIC)?

The Plane Tree operates as a Community Interest Company (CIC).

This means we are a social enterprise created to benefit the community rather than private shareholders.

As a CIC:

  • Profits are reinvested into supporting our trainees

  • We operate with transparency and accountability

  • Our primary purpose is social impact

Every purchase made in our shop directly supports training, development, and inclusive opportunities for adults with additional needs.
